Ottawa – Mayor Jim Watson, Councillor Keith Egli, Chair of the Transportation Committee and Kelly MacNaull of Tim Hortons, celebrated the efforts of 2013 Tim Hortons Cleaning the Capital participants and sponsors at a ceremony at City Hall this morning.
“Each year I feel a tremendous pride in seeing so many people actively involved in keeping their neighbourhood clean and beautiful,” said Mayor Watson. “I whole-heartedly extend my thanks to the volunteers, Tim Hortons, and the many other participants who help make the Tim Hortons Cleaning the Capital a city-wide success.”
Every year, the spring and fall events attract more than 80,000 participants who give back to their communities through litter pick-up and graffiti removal projects. Since 1994, Cleaning the Capital participants have collected over 1.6 million kilograms of waste from Ottawa’s parks, bus stops, woodlots, ravines, shorelines and pathways.
“Cleaning the Capital marked its 20th year in 2013, which is a tremendous testament to the appeal of the program,” said Councillor Egli. “Thanks to the support of the participants and sponsors, we all enjoy a more vibrant and healthier city.”
“Tim Hortons is proud to be a long-time sponsor of the Cleaning the Capital campaigns and we are dedicated to supporting this valuable initiative to keep our communities beautiful,” said Kelly MacNaull, Tim Hortons Regional Marketing Manager for Eastern Ontario. “We look forward to the campaign’s continued success to combat litter and graffiti through community cleanup projects across the city.”
The 2014 Spring Cleaning the Capital will be taking place April 15 to May 15 and will mark 21 years of the initiative. Participants can register online beginning March 15.
