Jill Crosthwaite bit into a juicy emerald ash borer larva and found a sweet flavour — good news for the bug, bad for ash trees. Ash borers produce huge quantities of glycerol, an alcohol that serves as internal antifreeze. Scientists at Western University in London say the beetle should survive Ottawa winters just fine.
