Ottawa – The City is launching a call for posters that increase awareness about drinking water and the significance of water in our community.
All Ottawa students in grades three, four and five are invited to create posters on the theme “Water is Life,” to illustrate the importance of water as the lifeblood of our city and a resource that we rely on daily. All submissions will be displayed at City Hall and on Ottawa.ca as part of the City’s Water Roundtable, which will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014.
“The City’s Water Roundtable is part of an important conversation with residents on water in our community,” said Mayor Jim Watson. “I am delighted we are listening to our youth and engaging with them as part of this discussion.”
Every participating school will be entered in a draw to send two student delegates and one teacher to a lunch at City Hall, hosted by Mayor Watson, their ward councillor and Chair McRae. Six schools will be selected.
“This project will provide a great opportunity for our younger residents to reflect on the essential role that water plays in our daily lives,” said Maria McRae, Chair of the City’s Environment Committee. “I am very excited to see the amazing artwork and fresh ideas that the students produce.”
Eligible schools in Ottawa can each submit one poster. Schools should ensure that the school name and contact information appears on the reverse of the poster. Posters can be delivered to any Client Service Centre before May 30, 2014.
