A 61-year-old Val-des-Monts man was sentenced to 23 months in jail and banned from driving for life after he was convicted of impaired driving for the third time.

Const. Martin Fournel, a MRC des Collines spokesman, said Pierre Charrette had a blood-alcohol level almost twice the legal limit when he was arrested on May 1.

A neighbour called police to complain that Charrette was scaring their horses by driving his six-wheel Argo-type all-terrain vehicle on private property.

When police arrived, Charrette had driven away and onto Brassard Road. Police soon caught up with the man and arrested him around 10:45 p.m.

At the time of his arrest, Charrette had five years left on a 10-year driving ban from his last conviction.

Charrette pleaded guilty to impaired driving and was sentenced on May 23 to 23 months in jail with three years of probation and a lifetime ban on driving.
