Police were expected to continuing search for a man, who is presumed to have drowned, after his boat capsized and was swept into the Deschenes Rapids on Sunday evening.

Ottawa police said Tuesday evening that the cold, fast flowing water has made it challenging to locate the man. It is believed that the victim was not wearing a life-jacket and the likelihood of survival is minimal.

Police has not yet released the name the missing man, but CTV identified him as 24-year-old Misha Novikov.

Another man was in the water for 10 minutes and suffering from hypothermia when he was rescued by Gatineau firefighters.

The two men had taken an inflatable boat into the Ottawa River, near Britannia Beach, only to be swept into the rapids, according to a witness.

Police said foul play was not suspected. They added that and a green and yellow Seahawk, an inflatable dinghy had not been recovered.
