Firefighters responding to a medical call stumbled upon a house fire near in Corkery, off March Road west of Highway 417 early Sunday morning.
Ottawa Fire Services arrived at 170 Grey Fox Dr. just after 3 a.m. following an emergency call from a neighbour, to find a 40-year-old man outside of the house suffering a cardiac arrest. They performed CPR until paramedics arrived, and then discovered a fire in the single-family, two-storey home.
The fire was contained to the basement of the house and was under control by 4:09 a.m.
The man who suffered the cardiac arrest died at the scene, Ottawa Paramedic Service said. Three other people were treated for minor injuries, including a firefighter; none of them were taken to hospital.
Damage to the house and contents was estimated at $150,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Ottawa Police.
