A letter carrier who harassed a neighbour by peeping in her windows and then sending a letter asking her to take part in his rape fantasy was sentenced on Monday to house arrest. William Johnston, 46, received a four-month conditional sentence after admitting he snuck into the woman’s yard to look at her naked or in bed during walks around his Gloucester neighbourhood. The voyeur later wrote the woman a letter he delivered in November 2013 in which he asked to bind and gag her if she was willing. The woman called police and Johnston was arrested. A Crown prosecutor asked for a 90-day jail sentence, but a judge settled on house arrest and 18 months’ probation given Johnston had pleaded guilty, wrote a letter of apology, and had never been in trouble with the police before. Johnston has since quit his job with Canada Post.
