No charges will be laid in the fatal collision in October 2013 that killed a prominent Ottawa cyclist.

Ottawa police said Wednesday that they have concluded their investigation into the crash and will not charge the driver involved.

The collision killed 38-year-old ‘Super’ Mario Théoret, who was struck by a tractor trailer at the corner of Merivale Road and Hunt Club Road West on Oct. 17, 2013. Théoret was killed while riding on his daily 25-kilometre bicycle commute.

Théoret was much loved in Ottawa’s mountain-biking community for his boundless generosity and positivity. He was co-founder of the Ottawa chapter of Trips for Kids, which provides recreational activities such as mountain biking to underprivileged children and had worked to create and maintain mountain biking trails in Kanata.

Théoret had complained to the city about the lack of bike lanes on Hunt Club Road and had recently mounted a video camera on his bike to record drivers who ignored cyclist’s safety.
