New stickers promoting Canada’s 150th anniversary celebrations in 2017 will soon adorn hundreds of city vehicles, Mayor Jim Watson announced on Thursday.

The decals, emblazoned with the Ottawa 2017 logo and website, will be plastered on 800 city vehicles around town at a cost of $22,000.

“We think it’s a good investment in marketing, because these trucks are going to literally be seen in every corner of the city for the next several years,” Watson said as he unveiled the sticker design at city hall.

Watson also announced that local artist Nicole Bélanger has been selected to paint the 2017-themed murals on Metcalfe Street at the 417 underpass and on Riverside Drive at the Bronson Street bridge. She has already started on the works, he said.

There will be a second mural at each site specifically reflecting the local community’s history and culture. Artists for those will be announced by the end of July and the murals will be done by the end of August, Watson said.
