A 20-year-old Ottawa woman is in an induced coma with liver problems and another young woman is dead after taking illegal pills at two local rave events this past long weekend.
Police say the second woman, a 19-year-old who isn’t from Ottawa, died hours after going to the hospital.
Ottawa police from the Central and East Divisions are investigating the incidents, which happened at different locations between June 29 and July 1. They say the pills could have been MDMA or ecstasy, but that they won’t know for sure until the coroner’s autopsy is released.
Police say it’s common for people to take drugs during the summer festival season, but that death from adverse reactions is rare.
They’re warning the public to made educated choices about doing drugs.
Ottawa police also asking anyone who might have information about the incidents to contact them at 613-236-1222, ext. 5166., or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 or toll-free at 1-800-222-8477.
