Ottawa police have charged Kevyn Lex Menard with disobeying a lawful court order in connection with an alleged parental abduction for which they issued an Amber Alert Thursday.
Menard, who turned 25 Friday, was scheduled to appear in court Friday.
A man allegedly abducted his two-year-old son from an outdoor barbecue at Tunney’s Pasture at about noon Thursday.
Police found the child safe with his father on Ritchie Street about three hours later.
Menard had left with the child on foot. The pair were spotted on OC Transpo video surveillance footage at the Tunney’s Pasture Transitway station.
Police said Friday that their investigation was ongoing and further charges could be laid in connection to the incident, which is believed to be related to an ongoing domestic dispute.
The Amber Alert issued Thursday is thought to be the first issued directly by Ottawa police, though Ottawa has previously fallen under OPP and RCMP alerts.
With files from Shaamini Yogaretnam.
