A woman and two children are displaced after a fire broke out in a St. Laurent townhouse Saturday evening.

Paramedics said a 68-year-old woman was taken to hospital and treated for minor smoke inhalation. Two firefighters were also treated for smoke inhalation, but neither was taken to hospital.

It is unclear if the woman who was taken to hospital resides in the home.

Ottawa Fire said a neighbour called for help to the third block of Prince Albert Street just before 6 p.m. and that crews had the blaze, which started in the kitchen, under control by 6:40 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, the woman was out of the home, but a bullmastiff was stuck inside. They soon freed the dog and gave it some oxygen.

There are no damage estimates yet, and the Canadian Red Cross and Salvation Army are helping the displaced family.
