The 24-year-old man who sparked a rare AMBER Alert in Ottawa last week when he allegedly abducted his two-year-old son, appeared briefly in court Tuesday charged with eight offences.
The charges against Kevyn Lex Menard range from contravening a custody order, three assaults and weapons possession.
Menard, in custody since his arrest, appeared by video and is scheduled to appear by video again next week for a further routine remand.
None of the charges against him have been proven in court.
Police allege that Menard took his child from a Tunney’s Pasture barbecue at around noon last Thursday.
The boy was found safe and unharmed three hours later on Ritchie Street.
The Ontario AMBER Alert is a warning system that alerts the public of abducted children.
