The Ottawa mayoral race is getting a little more crowded.

Darren Wood and Bernard Couchman have registered to run in the October mayoral election, meaning Mayor Jim Watson now has four challengers to his bid for re-election.

Wood, according to his website, is running on a platform of fiscal responsibility and transparency. He is pledging a zero-per-cent tax increase for two years, would scrap the city’s green bin program and wants to restore weekly garbage pickup, his website says.

Couchman registered on Wednesday and has yet to publish a platform.

The two men join Mike Maguire and Robert White as challengers to Watson, the heavy favourite. Maguire finished fifth in the 2010 mayoral race, garnering 2.45 per cent of the vote. White registered as a candidate in 2010 but withdrew within a month.

Robert G. Gauthier was also registered to run this time around, but withdrew from the race.

The five mayoral candidates is well below the 20 people who ran for mayor in 2010.

The election is on Oct. 27.
