Wakefield’s popular red covered bridge is now a no-jump zone, police say.
In a release, MRC des Collines de l’Outaouais warned “thrill seekers” that, since June 22, it’s forbidden to use the span as a launching pad for a cool dip into the Gatineau River.
Police said jumping from the Gendron Bridge has brought more and more fans to the Quebec village north of Ottawa, and that it causes problems requiring police and municipal intervention at times.
So far officers have only warned jumpers. But from now on, it is “strictly prohibited,” carrying a fine of $200.
