A beginner biker with only a learner’s permit led MRC des Collines police on a rollercoaster of a high-speed chase that ended in a crash Tuesday evening.

The motorcyclist escaped without a scratch.

The Gatineau man was driving his motorcycle, which had no license plates, erratically along Highway 50 at about 10 p.m., according to police.

Officers began a pursuit and the motorcyclist made moves to evade police, hitting speeds at high as 185 km/h. Police backed off the chase for safety reasons.

Shortly afterwards, the motorcyclist allegedly lost control of his bike and crashed after speeding off a highway exit in the wrong direction.

The man’s license was suspended for a week, and his motorcycle impounded for a month. He faces a $3,500 fine, 22 demerit points and charges of evading police and dangerous driving.

Polcie have not released his identity.
