Police have identified a 24-year-old Megan Proulx, 24, of Carp as woman struck and killed on Highway 401 early Monday morning.
According to the Ontario Province Police investigators, Proulx was driving east on the highway at about 3:30 a.m. Near the Long Beach exit in Elizabethtown-Kitley Township her car struck a guardrail. She managed to stop her car on the edge of the road. She then stepped from the car and walked into the traffic lanes only to be struck by a passing tractor-trailer.
“She was on the side of the road and got out of her vehicle and walked out into traffic,” said Const. Sandra Barr, with the Leeds County OPP detachment.
There’s no evidence the driver of the transport truck was at fault, the officer said, adding that it was possible the woman was disoriented after having hit the guardrail.
OPP were awaiting autopsy results before concluding their inquiry.
