Gatineau police are searching for two men in connection with a late Tuesday night assault using baseball bats.

The victim, 24, suffered hits to the head and arms, but refused to go to the hospital.

He was working for MTS Signalisation, a company that sets up street barricades, on the corner of St. Louis Street and Highway 50.

Police say an orange four-door Pontiac Wave, carrying three white men in their early twenties, parked near him just after 10 p.m. Two men got out.

“Then they suddenly attacked the victim for no reason,” said police spokesman Pierre Lanthier, adding the victim was bludgeoned for less than a minute. He was wearing a construction helmet, which helped deaden the blows to his head. “The victim was able to run away.”

Police said the victim did not know his attackers.

The two suspects are in their early twenties, weigh between 160 and 170 pounds and are between five feet, nine inches and five feet, 11 inches tall. The driver, who did not leave the car, is described as a large man.

Gatineau police major crime squad is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call Gatineau police at 819-246-0222.
