A young man from Ottawa is in hospital while another is being detained by Gatineau police after a severe beating late Saturday night .
Patrolling officers encountered a group of intoxicated young men arguing and fighting outside Le Bistro at Kent Street and Rue Aubry at 2 a.m. They broke up the fight, issuing two warnings as no one wanted to press charges against each other, Lt. Patrick Vaillancourt said.
At about 3 a.m., they received a call about a man lying in a parking lot on Laval Street. There, police found one of the men who had been part of the group involved in the earlier altercation unconscious and severely beaten.
They located another man who had been involved in the early fight nearby, with blood on his shirt and other signs he may have been involved in the beating, said Lt. Vaillancourt. This suspect, who is 18 and from Ottawa, was also very intoxicated.
He was detained by police and remained in custody Sunday.
The victim, who is about 18 years old and from Ottawa, is in hospital suffering from a severe concussion but has regained consciousness. His injuries are not considered life threatening.
More to come.
