Ottawa – The City of Ottawa is providing an opportunity to learn about and test the Accessible Vote Terminals (AVT) at various Ottawa Public Library branches across the city – between Monday, August 25 and Wednesday, August 27.

This technology counts and stores votes and allows all electors, including electors with disabilities, to make their mark – privately and independently.

The accessible features include:

  • A touch screen that allows the user to adjust contrast and type size
  • Tactile buttons with Braille labelling
  • A sip/puff device
  • A rocker paddle
  • An audio function to enable electors to hear candidate choices through headphones

Here are the dates, OPL branches and times of the AVT demonstrations

  • Monday, August 25
    • Carlingwood branch (281 Woodroffe Avenue), 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    • Cumberland branch (1599 Tenth Line Road), 4 to 8 p.m.
  • Tuesday, August 26
    • Vanier branch (310 Des Pères Blancs), 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
