Jim Watson won’t attend a debate in Richmond next week.
According to Ryan Kennery, the director of communications for Watson’s re-election bid, Watson will only participate in all-candidates’ debates after Sept. 12, which is the last day candidates can register.
The Sept. 2 date chosen by the Richmond Village Association, which is sponsoring the event, falls before the date when a final list of candidates will be ready.
“Mr. Watson plans to participate in several all candidates meetings, where his schedule permits, just as he did in the last election. For example, he has committed to a debate at Carleton University on Sept. 23,” Kennery said in an email.
Two mayoral candidates — Mike Maguire and Darren Wood — are scheduled to attend, as are candidates for council and school boards.
The event will be held at the Richmond Community Centre (6095 Perth St.) from 7 to 10 p.m.
