Ottawa – Beginning Wednesday, September 3, Queen Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Bay Street and Lyon Street to accommodate utility and hydro relocation work in advance of LRT station construction for the Confederation Line.
Lane reductions will be in place on different sections of Queen Street over the next few months as the work progresses east to Metcalfe Street. On-street parking will not be available in the affected portions of the street.
Access to businesses, office buildings, parking garages and loading docks will be maintained at all times.
Transit stops along Queen Street may be shifted and pedestrians may be redirected around construction sites.
The dedicated cycling lane at the corner of Queen Street and Bay Streets will also be temporarily closed.
Motorists and cyclists are reminded to exercise extra caution while travelling through this area.
With investments in infrastructure and construction-related activities underway across the city, residents are encouraged to be flexible with commuting times, stagger work hours or use other alternative means for travel. The public is asked to consider options such as transit, walking, cycling or carpooling.
The City of Ottawa has tools on ottawa.ca to help motorists and transit users plan their routes and manage their commute including:
• OttawaNav – the City’s mobile application for real time construction and traffic information.
• City of Ottawa Traffic Report – outlining citywide road closures, traffic restrictions and detours
• Travel Planner at octranspo.com – transit users can chart and plan routes
• Interactive traffic map – showing construction areas and live traffic cams throughout the city
• Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) cameras along Hwy 417
• Cycling maps and information – detailing bicycle pathways and lanes throughout the city
Further details and other information concerning City road works are available on ottawa.ca.
