City had increased property tax by about 6.8% while freezing commercial property tax. Because this is an election year, the municipal government has decided to absorb the cost of such increase and will issue a rebate on residential property tax. You'll still need to pay your property tax bills up front, City will issue a check to you sometime later this year, similar to the privatization of energy market last winter.

You can call the city to find out how much you are entitled. My property tax increase was about $380 dollars and I'm entitled to about $192 dollars in rebate.

根据俺的理解，这个退款来自于渥太华市政合并之初三年不涨地税的承诺，今年是第三年了，由于安省涨税，渥市政府不得不重整预算，削减服务项目和开支，停止招聘雇员甚至开始裁员等一系列措施以兑现最后一年的诺言。
唉，明年，咱们的地税就疯涨上去没办法了。

前些天还听电台里说，安省平均房屋地税是两千两百/年，而东部其他省份在七百-八百/年。
