A 55-year-old man was rescued from a heart attack because of the quick-thinking of his neighbour.
According to the paramedics, the neighbour noticed that the man, who was helping him with some construction on Wednesday morning, looked unwell. When the man leaned against the side of the building and collapsed, the neighbour immediately called 911 and started CPR.
By the time paramedics got to the location on Gladstone Avenue, the man was in cardiac arrest. Firefighters took over performing CPR, and paramedics used defibrillation to restart the man’s heart.
The man was resuscitated, stabilized on scene and taken to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in critical condition.
