A Quebec man’s ATV ride to the movie store was cut short on Tuesday when, police say, they noticed he had an open beer tucked in his vest pocket.

MRC des Collines police say they stopped the 44-year-old man from Perkins, Que., at around 4 p.m. while he was driving his off-road vehicle on De l’École Road in Val-des-Monts.

Police said that while the officer was talking with the man, she noticed that he had a can of beer in the chest pocket of the vest he was wearing. The can was open and missing some of its contents, police say.

The man, showing signs of inebriation, was arrested and brought to the police station, where he failed a breathalyzer test, police said.

Police said the man was on his way to a movie rental store, and had driven by a nearby elementary school as classes were ending.

The man, who is not named by police, did not have a driver’s licence, and police said he’s also faced two similar off-road vehicle charges in the past: one for drinking while driving, the other for not wearing a proper helmet.

On Tuesday, he was wearing a bicycle helmet, police said.

He was scheduled to appear in Gatineau court on Wednesday.
