The Ontario Provincial Police have closed the westbound lanes of Highway 417 at the Vanier Parkway after a pedestrian was struck and killed late Halloween night.
The police said the young man was trying to cross south across the highway Friday at about 11:36 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle headed west, landing in the far lane. He will not be identified to the public until his next of kin have been notified.
Ottawa Fire Services said they helped extricate the driver of the vehicle, the only occupant. He was not injured, said the OPP.
The westbound lanes are expected to remain closed until about 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
More news to come.
