The family of Kyle Sinclair, the young vehicle technician who died after an accident Friday at Canadian Army Garrison Petawawa, say they long knew he was destined for the Canadian armed forces.
“His perfectionist and meticulous nature was a sure sign that the military would be his calling,” the family said in a statement released by the 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group on Wednesday, the same day a memorial service took place for the 27-year-old in Petawawa.
Another service is planned for Saturday in Whitby, where Sinclair grew up. He graduated from Fleming College’s building techniques program in 2009 and joined the army in 2012.
“When he wasn’t working on vehicles or some form of renovation, he was spending quality time with family and friends,” said the family statement.
Sinclair, who held the rank of craftsman, is survived by parents Guy Sinclair and Anna Loveman, stepmother Kristy Sinclair, stepfather John Loveman and siblings Evan, Roslin and Graeme.
Sinclair reportedly suffered head injuries when a seat lever in a light armoured Coyote patrol vehicle released by accident or malfunction.
The military said it cannot release details about the accident because it remains under investigation.
