An electrical fire ripped through a single-family home in Gatineau early Sunday morning, causing $250,000 in damage, officials say.
Gatineau fire says that when crews arrived, flames and a great deal of smoke were coming from the one-storey residence.
The sole occupant of the home, located at 28 Rue Beauparlant, had already escaped, thanks to a smoke alarm.
Firefighters took an “aggressive” approach to the blaze and had it under control by 6:20 a.m. Officials say the fire was accidental and started in the floor due to an electrical defect.
The occupant of the home will be staying with family.
