Almost 1,300 people took part in this year’s Salvation Army and The Running Room 24th annual Santa Shuffle 5 km Fun Run and 1 km Elf Walk, starting at Tunney’s Pasture Saturday.
It was the third year in a row that the Ottawa event had the most participants among 41 communities that staged the event across Canada.
Participants collected pledges to assist Salvation Army programs that help local families and individuals in need at Christmas and all year long. Everyone was encouraged to wear their favourite Christmas costume.
Santa Claus led the Elf Walk, while Star Wars and princess mascots greeted participants along the route. Post-event refreshments, awards and a unique Santa Shuffle finishers’ medal was awarded to all participants.
