Human remains were discovered Wednesday in the ruins of a burned-out home in Winchester.

The discovery was made after North Dundas Fire Department firefighters put out a blaze that engulfed the Sesame Street home around 11:30 a.m., said Ontario Provincial Police Const. Joel Doiron. Police were still trying to positively identify the human remains.

Investigators from the Ontario Fire Marshall Office and the and coroner were at the scene of the fire on Thursday.

Doiron said they hadn’t determined where the fire started in the home and were waiting for the result of the fire marshall and coroner’s investigation.

“Once they provide us with their findings, we’ll see the direction that we’re going with,” Doiron said.

No other information was immediately available.
