Keep dreaming of a white Christmas — meteorologists say it’s going to be a soggy week.

Environment Canada has issued a weather warning for the entire Ottawa area for possible freezing drizzle Monday night and freezing rain Tuesday morning. As temperatures rise Tuesday, the precipitation will likely turn to rain.

The agency says a “moistening airmass combined with an approaching low pressure system from the American Midwest” is to blame.

As a result, Environment Canada says to watch for icy and slippery roads and walkways.

The agency also issued a weather statement for “some un-Christmas-like weather.”

Sunday’s winter solstice marked the beginning of the coldest season, “but mother nature isn’t paying attention to the calendar,” Environment Canada said.

The agency said to expect mild temperatures for the next few days, with the exception of Eastern Ontario on Monday, where the barometer will remain seasonal.

“On Christmas Day, mother nature will offer a meagre attempt at a white Christmas in many areas,” the agency said. A system over the Great Lakes will bring cooler temperatures, strong winds, and potentially some flurries, but meteorologists said not to expect any accumulation of snow.

“There has been considerable discrepancy in the weather model guidance for this holiday period,” Environment Canada said, adding that it “will continue to monitor this developing weather…and issue statements and any necessary warnings.”
