A family returned from a night out to find their Woodroffe-area home on fire early Sunday morning, said Ottawa police.
The family called 911 at about 3 a.m. after finding smoke and flames visible from their house at 3 Stonepointe Ave.
Heavy smoke was coming from the detached, two-storey home when firefighters arrived, leading them to escalate it to a two-alarm blaze, said officials.
Damage is extensive and yet to be estimated, but the basement, first and second floor and a detached garage were affected.
No injuries were reported. The residents were to stay with friends or relatives.
The investigation into the cause of the fire continues Sunday.
