Sexapalooza kicked off this weekend, featuring an appearance by porn actress Tori Black, a burlesque shows, kinky toys and “how to” sex tips at the Shaw Centre.
From Feb. 6 to 8 thousands gathered to add a bit of kink in their life. But Liz Lewis, show producer said what makes this year’s three-day event special is having the very recognizable working film star.
“This is the first time that we had a film star here at the show, people have asked for them in the past and I wasn’t quite sure how it would go over but she is wonderful.”
Adult film actress Tori Black, right, was a hit at Sexapalooza, doing a Q&A before posing for (clothed) pictures with fans for about 90 minutes.
The crowd loved her, she added. People were lined up for an hour-and-a-half to have their picture taken with Black, dressed relatively demurely in jeans and a white T-shirt.
Black told Lewis that of all the cities she’s visited, she’s never seen a response like that. “She couldn’t believe how polite and nice the people here are,” said Lewis.
Burlesque shows, belly dancing and Q&As took centre stage, while people from all walks of life trooped into a “dungeon” to learn a few things about BDSM.
A belly dancer performs at the Sexapalooza show at the Shaw Centre Saturday.
“You talk to some people and they are just regular teachers, retail people or waitresses.”
Lewis said they also get people from all ages coming. A couple of years ago they started offering a seniors’ rate. “I think is fabulous that you’re in your 80s and you still have a healthy sex life, that you would come down to the show to still learn more.
For Tracy Cunningham, going to Sexapalooza is about empowerment. She drove up with a group of 10 girls from Pembroke.
“It’s a good chance to get out and be in a place where sex and sexuality is celebrated.”
“It’s not hidden in the bedroom.”
