Bill Gates, co-founder of the world’s largest software business, Microsoft, and one of the world’s richest men, will drop in on Canada’s Governor General Wednesday.
“I’m pleased to welcome Mr. Gates to Rideau Hall to discuss matters dealing with Canadian philanthropy,” Gov. Gen. David Johnston said in a statement Tuesday announcing the visit.
He characterized the morning meeting as “an opportunity to speak about Canada’s commitment and leadership in this area.”
Early last year, during visit to the U.S., Johnston visited the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in Seattle to learn more about the philanthropy strategies and approaches.
Wednesday’s meeting with Gates is intended to “foster best practices” in this area, the statement said.
