An 18-year-old man suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries after he was thrown 15 metres from his car and landed in the oncoming lanes of Highway 416 Monday morning.
The crash – a single car rollover – occurred at about 11:20 a.m. in the southbound lanes, just south of Bankfield Road. The driver lost control of the Honda Civic and was ejected when it rolled.
A passenger, also a teenaged male, was uninjured.
“He’s very lucky,” said J.P. Trotter of the Ottawa Paramedic Service. The man was conscious when paramedics arrived, he said. They treated him at the scene for a serious head injury, then took him to hospital.
The Ontario Provincial Police is asking for witnesses to contact them at 613-270-9171. Traffic was reduced to one lane while police investigated, but all lanes had reopened by 1 p.m.
