Boil-water advisories remain in effect Saturday for almost 40,000 residents in two areas of “Old Gatineau” following separate technical problems earlier in the week.

The area surrounding Maloney Boulevard was hit when an electrical generator problem interrupted the system that regulates the chlorine levels.

The Gatineau hospital on la Vérendye Boulevard is affected, but will be passing out bottled water until the advisory is lifted.

Hospital staff has said that everyone has access to water and that the situation isn’t a major problem.

The city of Gatineau advises residents boil water for a one minute, then cool it before consuming or brushing teeth with it.

The advisory could last another two days.

Residents along Rue Saint Louis, the other affected area, are under the boil-water advisory due to a broken watermain, which has since been repaired.

The advisory for this area is expected to be lifted soon.

When the advisory has been lifted, those in affected areas are asked to open all cold water taps and let water run for one minute until it is cold.
