Ottawa’s 20th bank robbery of 2015 was pretty much a disaster for a youthful-looking man who took on the new bank at the new Lansdowne.

The man walked into a bank on Marché Way about 2:55 p.m. Wednesday and handed a teller a note demanding cash. The note said he had a gun, though he never showed one.

His first problem: The teller wasn’t impressed. Police say the teller “suggested to the suspect that he would not get what he was demanding,” and the would-be robber walked away with nothing. No one was hurt.

His second problem: The bank has very clear security photos of him. Police would would like to hear from anyone who knows who he is, or who saw him coming or going from the bank.

Police won’t identify the bank, but there’s a Bank of Montreal on Marché Way, the retail area next to TD Place.

The Robbery Unit describes him being a black male, slim build, early to mid 20s, approximately five feet eight inches to six feet one inch (173 cm to 185 cm) tall, with some “scruffy” facial hair, and was English-speaking with a “slight unidentified accent.” He wore a San Francisco 49ers tuque, blue jeans, and a black coat with a grey hooded shirt underneath.

Anyone with information with respect to this robbery, or any other robbery, is asked to contact the Ottawa police robbery unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5116. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or by downloading the Ottawa Police iOS app.
