A 32-year-old Ottawa man faces weapons charges after Ottawa police alleged they found him asleep at the wheel of a running vehicle, a firearm in his waistband.
Police said members of the direct action patrol unit, which works to suppress gang activity through surveillance and monitoring, spotted a man asleep in a car on Dumaurier Avenue, a looping street east of the Bayshore Shopping Centre.
When officers stopped, they found the sleeping man had his foot on the brake pedal, but the car was running.
A police release states that “during the interaction,” a firearm was located in the man’s waistband.
Mathieu Cecire, 32, of Ottawa, faces a long list of charges including carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a loaded firearm, occupying a vehicle with a firearm, possession of a firearm obtained by crime, four counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited and five counts of failure to comply with terms of a judicial release.
He was also charged with failure to provide a breath sample.
