:monster:

2,247 Ottawa city workers on Ontario's Sunshine List

There were 2,247 municipal employees — from cops to planners to bus drivers — who collected a salary of at least $100,000 in 2014.

There are 59 more city staffers on the 2014 Sunshine List compared to the previous year.

The usual municipal public servants, or at least the same positions, appear at the top of the list.

City manager Kent Kirkpatrick was City Hall’s top earner, pulling in a salary of $341,273.58 last year.

Medical officer of health Isra Levy made $324,154.73 and deputy city manager Steve Kanellakos, who’s leaving to become city manager in Vaughan, made $309,399.76.

Police Chief Charles Bordeleau ranked fourth with a salary of $274,475.20, followed by deputy city manager Nancy Schepers at $263,189.95.

Schepers recently transitioned to senior advisor of LRT as she heads for retirement later this year.

In total, three municipal bureaucrats made more than $300,000 and another 13 made less than $300,000 but more than $200,000.

Of all city employees in the $100K club, 35% of them (excluding police) have a base salary less than $100,000 but made the Sunshine List because of retroactive payments, overtime, on-call pay and vacation cashouts, according to the city.

Contract awards inflated the salaries last year for some emergency services.

A police arbitration award covered 2013 and 2014 and firefighters won a matching increase for 2012.

Emergency responders make up 71% of City Hall’s $100K club and police represent 48% of the list.

There are 1,079 employees on the Sunshine List from the Ottawa Police Service, 449 from Ottawa Fire Services and 86 from the Ottawa Paramedic Services.

The top-earning police constable made $165,710 last year — collecting more than many of his bosses.

The city said half of first responders on the list have a base salary less than $100,000, but retroactive contract awards pushed them over the $100K threshold.

There are 23 more fire staff, 40 more police staff and three more library staff on the 2014 Sunshine List compared to the 2013 list.

Sixteen $100K earners were listed as bus operators on the Sunshine List, with $111,994 being the top salary.

The top 10 earners in the city government are rounded out by associate medical officers of health Carolyn Pim and Rosamund Lewis, deputy medical officer of health Vera Etches, OC Transpo GM John Manconi and Deputy Police Chief Ed Keeley.
