A pair of beloved geese that lived together for 15 years as companions and pets in an Ontario cemetery have been separated forever by the cruel act of some kids, police say.
Police say they received a call last month about youth shooting at ducks in a pond at the Glenwood Cemetery in Picton, Prince Edward County.
After authorities arrived, it was discovered that a female goose had been killed — by a pellet gun, police believe — and removed from the pond.
The goose was one of a pair of mates that were longtime residents of the cemetery, police said in a news release Tuesday.
The birds had been donated as a gift. Their wings were clipped, making them unable to fly.
The geese were fed daily and cared for by volunteers, police said.
The youngsters responsible have not been found, and police are asking for help in tracking down the perpetrators.
“Police are actively investigating this matter,” the release said.
