The Redblacks football team coaches and players were out on their field for a very special training session on Thursday: it was women’s night.

About 100 women signed up to learn how to throw and kick a football, with coaches and players offering insight into the strategies of the game and how they prepare before each match.

Longtime fan Doris Zastre, 85, was a star of the event as she tossed the football after instructions from such players as Quarterback Brad Sinopoli and linebacker Jordan Verdone.

After kicking the ball a few times, laughing and posing for pictures, all the participants were invited for a social gathering in the Redblacks locker room and Otto’s Club at TD Place.

Participants took part in learning sessions with coaches and players on the TD Place field and in the actual meeting rooms used by the Redblacks.

Tickets were $60 and included underground parking, cocktail snacks and other refreshments and the team is hoping to make this an annual event.

The Redblacks and Ottawa Fury Football Club are having a join fan photo shoot on Sunday, April 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Horticulture Building at TD Place. For other events information, visit www.ottawaredblacks.com.
