It’s not summer in Ottawa if there’s not road construction. And plenty of it.

On Thursday, the city held a technical briefing to advise councillors and the media about this year’s busy construction season. Given that the city is slated to spend about $445 million, it seems wise that they tell us about it.

Many of the projects highlighted are intimately connected to the $2.1-billion project, which will bring rail service to transit users between Tunney’s Pasture and Blair stations.

Staff went into great detail about road resurfacing projects, progress on the Confederation line tunnel, and the affects both will have on drivers and OC Transpo riders across the city.

You can read the details here.

This is the third week in a row that the city has held a technical briefing. Last week’s topic was the upcoming closure of the Transitway between Hurdman and Blair stations. The week before the 2015 child care service plan.

These sessions are welcome and vital. The city gets to present its information, reporters get to ask questions and seek clarification from seniors officials who know what they’re talking about, and readers/citizens get to be better informed.

O, how we, in the small but mighty city hall press corps, might love a technical briefing on the budget. Or the auditor-general’s report.

But I digress.

Here, for your reading pleasure, is the complete construction briefing document, as presented today.
