An Ottawa woman allegedly doing 150 km/h on Highway 417 is facing charges for racing and drinking and driving after she was stopped early Monday morning near Parkdale Avenue.
The Ontario Provincial Police charged 26-year-old Sasha Ruhs with racing a motor vehicle, impaired driving and having a blood-alcohol level exceeding 80 mg/100 mL.
Police allege Ruhs was travelling more than 150 km/h on the eastbound Queensway when she passed an OPP cruiser at about 1 a.m. Ruhs’s vehicle did not have its rear lights on, police said. She is to appear in court on June 4.
The racing charge includes an immediate seven-day licence suspension and the driver’s vehicle is impounded for a week. With a conviction, the driver faces a fine of up to $10,000, six demerit points, up to six months jail and a licence suspension of up to two years.
