Ottawa fire crews were kept busy early Monday morning battling a pair of blazes, including one that left seven people homeless after a townhouse caught fire in Nepean.
Shortly before 2 a.m., Ottawa fire received multiple 911 calls reporting flames visible from the back of a townhouse at 212 Sorento Street.
The fire started on the second floor of the multi-unit dwelling. Flames spread from one unit to the attic of another; smoke damaged a third unit in the building.
The blaze was under control by 2:34 a.m., Ottawa fire said in a release. Seven people are displaced and the cause of the fire is unknown.
Nearly three hours later, Ottawa fire was back to work, this time near Britannia Heights.
At just before 5 a.m., multiple 911 calls reported smoke visible from a balcony on the seventh floor of an apartment building at 838 Pinewood Crescent.
When fire crews got to the seventh floor, the hallway was thick with smoke.
Crews made entry into the burning unit and found the kitchen on fire.
The fire was doused by 5:25 a.m. The tenant wasn’t home, but Ottawa fire said he was known to police.
Damages are estimated at $100,000 and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
Neither fire resulted in injuries.
