Police in Gatineau arrested two people and seized five illegal firearms Thursday in a joint operation with the Canada Border Services Agency.
The investigation began after CBSA recently intercepted a parcel from the United States containing an “energy weapon,” a category that includes Tasers.
Shipping information led the police and CBSA to an apartment in the St. Thomas neighbourhood of Aylmer.
There they found and seized five illegal guns — some handguns and some home-made — a “small quantity” of cannabis, gun parts, ammunition of different calibres, and three cellphones.
The two men, aged 18 and 21, are expected to face a string of charges relating to importing and possessing prohibited weapons.
