Area police crack down on impaired driving and construction zone safety

Ottawa and Gatineau police will crack down on impaired driving and construction zone during the month of June.


Between 2009 and 2013, there were 1703 impaired driving-related crashes. Of those crashes, 24 people were killed and 726 injured.


Police said 212 people were injured, nine seriously injured, in the 981 crashes in construction zones between 2007 and 2011. Four construction workers were struck and injured by a motorist.

Each month, as part of the city’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, or STEP, two priorities are targeted.
