Capital Pride is going back to its Bank Street roots this August. The Bank Street route, however, is still uncertain.

It’s the 30th anniversary for the summer event, which will feature a flag-raising tour, a commemoration ball, a human rights vigil, a family picnic, the Rainbow Party and the Mr. and Mrs. Capital Pride Pageant.

But the best-known event is the parade, which will be on Aug. 23, the final day of the week-long celebration.

Capital Pride’s chair, Tammy Dopson, said this year’s effort in partnership with the Bank Street Business Improvement Area will move “back to the village on Bank Street.”

“Together the BIA and Pride are committed to delivering a festival that is not only a community celebration but a return to its roots,” Dopson said.

“We are currently in discussions with the City of Ottawa regarding a proposed parade route,” she said. But she said it’s too early to give any hints about where that will be, although “it will involve Bank Street.”

Times and dates of events are still to be determined.

Capital Pride is still considering hiring a new for a festival producer after the resignation of Mauricio Olivares, who resigned in May because of health problems. “Until we exercise all our options there will be no decision made,” Dopson said.

The previous management of Capital Pride collapsed after last year’s festival, leaving $100,000 in debts to suppliers. The event is now under a new board.
