A 24-year-old man was killed early Saturday when his performance-model sedan left the roadway and struck several trees in a cottage area south of Perth, police said.

Aaron James Machan of Calgary, formerly of Elgin, Ont., was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on Narrows Lock Road near Powers Road in Tay Valley Township. A passenger, also 24 and also originally from Elgin and now living in Calgary, was seriously injured, Lanark County Ontario Provincial Police said.

The accident was one of two fatal weekend crashes near Perth. On Sunday a husband and wife were killed in a collision between their motorcycle and a truck.

The OPP said officers were called to the Narrows Lock Road accident at about 5:20 a.m. Saturday and found the black 2000 Audi S4 in a bush area. Collision investigators continue to try to determine the cause of the crash.

Police asked anyone who witnessed the accident or has information to contact them at 1 888-310-1122.
