Gov. Gen. David Johnston was dressed in one of his finest uniforms as he opened up a Robert Munsch tale to read to the young ones gathered on the lawn Saturday at Rideau Hall. Angela’s Airplane kept the children captivated on this first day of what is an annual summer family activity that celebrates reading.

Angela’s Airplane was the story of choice on Saturday.

Storytime at Rideau Hall takes place every Friday and Saturday until Aug. 22 from 1 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Storytime is hosted in collaboration with Frontier College, a Canadian non-profit literacy organization. Volunteers invite visitors to settle in under the Reading Tent, near the Visitor Centre, to read books and participate in fun literacy activities.

Gov. Gen. David Johnston was presented with a drum after a group photograph with members of the Ceremonial Guard.

Earlier, Johnston did an inspection of the ceremonial guard and posed for a picture with the troops.
