Fire officials have banned open fires anywhere in Ottawa because of the hot, dry weather.
The ban was issued Monday and is expected to remain in place at least until Environment Canada lifts a heat advisory for Ottawa and conditions improve, according to Chris Burke from Ottawa Fire Services.
When there’s no ban, residents must first obtain a burn permit for any open fires, which are generally permitted only in rural areas.
Permits are issued under Ottawa bylaw No. 2004-163.
